It is with deep and sincere sorrow that we learn of the passing of Gloria Savonuzzi, a figure whose memory will be inextricably linked to that of her beloved father Carlo, and to whom our University is grateful for the trust and generosity she showed.
We owe her the foresight of having entrusted the precious legacy of her father, engineer and architect Carlo Savonuzzi, to the Department of Architecture of the University of Ferrara. The intention to donate the papers was expressed in the early 2000s, and the donation, finalised in 2006, includes drawings, photographs and correspondence accumulated over a long career.
With this act, Mrs Gloria demonstrated her desire to pass on a precious cultural legacy, entrusting the materials to a place dedicated to study and research, to the training of young people and future professionals.
We are very grateful to her for the trust she placed in us as custodians of a wealth of projects and ideas, and we remember her on several occasions as an attentive and knowledgeable witness to her father's projects.
With smiling enthusiasm, she had the ability to convey her vivid experiences to the young students involved in educational workshops and archive activities, sharing her emotional memories of accompanying her father on his site visits when she was still a young girl.
During these meetings, Mrs Savonuzzi conveyed a message of love for her father and at the same time encouraged young people to look to the future with confidence.
The Carlo Savonuzzi Archive, which has been carefully reorganised and catalogued, with the restoration of the most fragile materials, has been largely digitised and made available to the public since 2016, and its contents have been disseminated through numerous activities.
The study of the papers, the promotion of their important design content and the transmission of Carlo Savonuzzi's decisive role in the history of the city during crucial decades for its development are commitments that we will maintain, in continuity with what has been done over the last twenty years, as a promise from our scientific community to Mrs Gloria Savonuzzi.
