The accessible library

What is SensusLibrary?

SensusLibrary is a digital library for documents in accessible alternative multimedia formats.

The University of Ferrara, as an entity authorised since March 2024 under the Copyright Act (No. 633/1941), offers a service for locating and supplying texts in accessible formats via the SensusLibrary platform.

Who is it for?

To students who are unable to read documents in paper format due to a visual, physical, sensory, developmental, cognitive or learning disability.

How does it work?

The service specifically covers:

  • the sourcing and supply of material already in digital format
  • the digital supply of printed texts owned by the University libraries
  • the retrieval and provision in digital format of bibliographic material not available in the University libraries.

To use the service, you must request an account on SensusLibrary. Registration requires signing a  release form in which you declare that you will not transfer the material received in digital format to third parties, will not make copies of it, and will use it only for study and personal purposes.
Confirmation of registration for the service will be sent to the user by e-mail, subject to authorisation. Once enabled, you will be able to access the platform and request the materials you need in an alternative format by entering the following mandatory information: Title, Author, ISBN, Publisher, format, Academic year of reference and course (Examination).
The requested texts will be made available in an accessible format on the platform, approximately within 2 weeks. If more time is required, you will be contacted by the Inclusion Policy Coordination Office inclusione@unife.it, which you can contact if you encounter any difficulties in using the application.
From SensusLibrary, you can download the available file, rework its format as needed, or send it to your email address.

Terms of use

  • The service is intended solely for users who are "print-disabled" as defined by law and is provided exclusively for study and personal purposes. Any other use of the bibliographic material made available through the platform is prohibited.
  • The end user is solely responsible for any copyright infringements.
  • Neither the University of Ferrara nor the developers of the service are responsible for the improper and/or unlawful use of the SensusLibrary application.
