Professor Eugenio Battisti (Turin, December 14th 1924 – Rome, November 18th 1989) apart from being a director, theatre and music critic, was a professor in both american and italian Universities, producing several publications, conventions and interuniversity researches also dedicated himself to history of art studies and of architecture from the Middle Ages to the 20th century without neglecting his work as a critic and also dedicating himself personally to the organisation of numerous contemporary art exhibitions.
Professor Giuseppa Saccaro Del Buffa, widow and only heir of Prof. Battisti, donated her husband's library, the vast majority of which consists of monographs, catalogues and periodicals, totalling around 15,000 documents, to the University of Ferrara.
The collection developed around art history and architecture studies to which the professor has dedicated himself since the 1950s, and bears witness to the multidisciplinary approach that has characterised its research built around the idea of the unity of knowledge and a study method based on continuous communication between past and present and on dialogue between different fields of knowledge. Therefore there are texts on art history and art criticism, as well as on economics, regional geography and ethnography and the history of philosophy. Part of the collection consists of the books and documents that Professor Battisti used for the two editions of 'L'Antirinascimento' in 1962 and 1989.
